Parent and toddler classes

(18 months to 3 years)

Age profile

Children can begin learning with Mac from as young as 18 months.

At this age, children are naturally learning Japanese through mimicking and interacting with their parents and with other children. In parent and toddler classes, we use this natural language acquisition method to help kids learn English.

Benefits

English has many sounds that Japanese does not. Listening to, mimicking and learning these sounds at an early age will improve natural pronunciation later in life.

Meeting a foreign person for the first time can be a little scary! Sometimes, tears are inevitable – especially when a toddler is introduced to their teacher for the first time. In parent and toddler classes, a student’s trusted mum or dad are nearby to offer reassurance.

It won’t be long before your child is laughing, singing, dancing and learning English through play.

Between three and four years old is a great time to start becoming familiar with the English alphabet. Students will first learn the capital letters and the Alphabet Song, before moving on to lowercase letters and very basic words.

Benefits

This course allow kids to learn in a fun environment with their mother or father. The educational benefits are combined with a unique bonding experience that comes through learning with a parent.

The simple but enjoyable activities are easily replicable at home, where parents can continue the learning experience. The parents learn skills in the classroom to help their kids remember vocabulary and grammar.

Most of the lessons incorporate a shared reading element. Kids learn vocabulary and grammar, which then comes alive in popular and traditional English-language stories. Parents also benefit from a reading list of suitable books they can read with their children at home.

Age profile

At this age, kids will begin to learn how to describe the world around them using basic grammar. They will also learn how to talk about their likes and dislikes, use adjectives to describe how they are feeling, and talk about the weather.

They no longer need the support of their parents to learn. However, parents are welcome to observe the lessons to provide emotional support. Parents can also learn the English they need to support their child’s learning at home.

Benefits

As part of their vocabulary learning, students will be taught the days of the week, the months of the year, and the seasons. They will also learn how to talk about yesterday and tomorrow.

To help students become comfortable with the sounds of English promote basic reading, phonics are introduced into the classroom. Phonics helps Japanese children associate letters of the alphabet with sounds. This helps children pronounce unfamiliar words and become more comfortable with reading basic English.

Most lessons have homework assigned at the end. Students will practice writing and the grammar that they learned in the lesson.
